1. Publisher and scope
Marcin Gurba, ul. Lechonia 28 m. 8, 42-229 Częstochowa, Poland (“SubVocal”, “we”), is the publisher of the SubVocal iPhone app and operator of subvocal.app. He is the controller of data processed in connection with the website and correspondence. Privacy contact: privacy@subvocal.app.
2. What is processed during a conversation
Audio, transcripts and translations are processed in your iPhone's memory. SubVocal does not save recordings or conversation history. Pausing, changing the language or leaving the app removes the current content. Diplomat mode uses Apple's on-device model when available. “Their turn” deliberately recognizes the other person's words; tell them you are using translation.
3. What the app does not collect
There is no SubVocal account, advertising, tracking or in-app analytics. The app contains no third-party libraries or its own networking code. It does not send voice, text, lists, identifiers, contacts or location to the provider. Voice, transcripts and translations are processed on the iPhone. SubVocal collects no personal information, usage data, diagnostic data or device identifiers. It does not sell data or make its own internet connections. No account, ads or tracking, in both Free and Pro.
4. Permissions and foreground operation
SubVocal requests microphone and speech recognition access to recognize your whisper and the other person's reply in “Their turn”. Listening works only with the app open on an unlocked iPhone. The iOS message about possibly sending speech to Apple is standard; SubVocal requires local recognition and does not use server recognition. Change permissions in your iPhone's privacy settings.
5. Apple system services
iOS downloads dictation packs, translation models, voices and the Apple Intelligence model from Apple services. Apple also handles purchases. If you allow it in iOS Settings, Apple may share anonymised crash reports and usage statistics with the developer.
6. Pro and payments
The App Store handles payments and purchase restoration under Apple's rules. SubVocal does not receive card or payment details. Pro entitlement is remembered on the device so its features can also work offline.
7. What you save and how to move it
Saved lists are encrypted with a key that never leaves this iPhone. They are included in an iPhone backup if you make one, but cannot be read on another device. Transfer them to a new iPhone using a file (“Export to a file”). SubVocal does not sync them through iCloud.
Move phrases, the glossary, “Never say” and speech rates via a file. The export is readable text. Import adds entries without removing existing ones; it accepts a SubVocal file up to 1 MB.
No. The two language codes remain in the iPhone keychain. Changing the menu language, “Erase everything stored” and reinstalling do not change the free pair. Pro unlocks other pairs.
Deletes lists, settings and the current utterance. Does not change the free pair or Pro purchase, and does not delete exported files.
8. Children
SubVocal is not directed at children under 13. The app does not collect data from users, including children. Purchases use Apple Account mechanisms.
9. Correspondence and your rights
If you write to us, we process your email address, message content and voluntarily attached materials to reply and handle the matter. Do not attach confidential conversations or lists from the app. You may request access to your data, rectification, deletion or restriction of processing, and object to processing, to the extent provided by law. Write to privacy@subvocal.app; we reply within one month. You may also lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority, in Poland the President of the Personal Data Protection Office. We do not receive the content of conversations processed by the app, so we cannot provide or delete it for you.
California (CCPA / CPRA). We do not sell or share personal information, and the app collects none. Any request can be sent to privacy@subvocal.app.
10. Protection on your device and your surroundings
The app runs in the isolated iOS environment, and lists have additional encryption. It blocks third-party keyboards. System keyboard dictation and Writing Tools have their own Apple rules; they are not the same as SubVocal's local listening. People nearby may read your screen or hear a sentence played aloud. Screenshots, recordings and screen sharing may preserve its content outside the app, including in iCloud Photos.
11. Changes to this information
The policy is updated as the app and the services used by the website change. The update date is at the top of the page. Significant changes will be described on this page.
12. Website, hosting and email
The website uses no cookies or analytics and has no forms. It stores nothing in your browser; language selection is an ordinary link. Fonts, images, videos and scripts load from our own server. Hosting and email are provided by home.pl sp. z o.o., acting as a processor on our behalf; the server is in Germany. Logs may include your IP address, request time, requested URL, browser identifier (user agent) and referring page. We process them for website operation and security and retain them for 7 days. Correspondence includes your email address, message and voluntary attachments; it is used to respond and handle your enquiry and retained until the matter is resolved, for no longer than 2 years. Our legitimate interest is the legal basis for processing logs and correspondence (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR): running a secure website and answering enquiries. These data relate to the website and email, not conversations in the app.
